Teaching Without Grades

I like this movement because on of the students described in the article talks about how they are able to focus on the assignment instread of worrying about the grade. I feel this could motivate students to do their best work and really focus of the assignement given to them. I personally like this because sometimes I feel I can put a lot of effort into something, and even do it the correct way but jsut dont get a good grade on it. Testing rarely shows a students true ability and also tends to cause stress and anxiety not only to the student but the family and teachers. I am happy to see a movement like this going on today, so that in the future, maybe schools will turn more away from testing, or find a better way to test students abilities. Tests don't recognize different students and individual learning processes, slong with their different talents and abilities. Every student has a talent, one may not be math, but this does not mean that the student does not work extreamly hard to uinderstand the concept. The student may get testing anxiety, that I hvae stuggled with growing up, where you are positive you know something but while tkaing the test just get overwhelmed and forget everything. Test taking itself is a skill that not all possess and can be hard to learn. This is why I support the teaching wihtout grades movement.

The Differences between Lesson Plans and Unit Plans

Lesson plans and unit plans are different because they have different durations. Lesson plans are amde and prepared by the teacher who makes the lesson plan for students with specific objectives, a lesson plan usually take 1 to 2 days to teach. A Unit plan is a combination of more than one lesson that take place through a longer period of time like a semester or year. An exmple of this would be a syllabes, like the ones we recieve on the first day of the new semester.

Scientific me

If I was to write a scientific me essay I would write about my concerns with Climate Change and how there is now a doomsday clock in New York and how this is going to affect our lives and the future lives on this Earth. I would express how important it is to care about the planet we live on because we have to start caring about it now before it's too late. The Metronome’s digital clock in Manhattan has now been reprogrammed to illustrate a critical window for action to prevent the effects of global warming from becoming irreversible. By speaking up and spreading what you know about climate change can do more than you think! By just making people more aware you are already taking part in changing the world. There are small and simple things you can do to also help, like unplugging things when they are not being used or turning off unnecessary lights. You can also use renewable energy, which is a big trend and many people have solar panels on their houses. By eating the food you buy and not having anything go to waste is also helping the environment we live in. By even doing the bare minimum you are still doing more than most people in helping to save our world, just imagine if you put a little more effort in.

5 Es

The 5Es are important to remember when planning a scientific lesson plan. The 5Es are Engage, Explore, Explain, and Elaborate. Engage- Allow the students to make connections through past and present knowledge. Explore-Allow students to actively manipulate their materials and make sure they get and experience. Explain- Teachers explain the proccesses and concepts so the students are able to do it on their own and learn them. Elaborate- The students will practice new skills and work on them. Evaluate- Assess of new understandings for the students.

Discovery learning

Discovery Learning is a technique of inquiry-based learning and is considered a constructivist based approach to education. The founder of discovery learning was Piaget, but Jerome Bruner contributed many important ideas. I learnied that this is also known as problem based learning.

Neil DeGrasse Tyson's

From the video I learned that we are very suceptabe to self delusion so eye witness testemony is very unrealiable. This was shocking to hear becuasae it is one of the most used and trusted forms of evidence in the legal system. Science is more reliable than eye witness because it is easy for someones emotions to get in the way of their views and what they "thought" they saw. "Scientists know more liberal arts than the science that is known by liberal artists", At first I was confused byu this but then Tyson's explained that people should understand what is going on in the world and understand the basis of it. Even if you did not like science in school you should still be scientifically literalte and understand why things are the way they are in todays world.

Climate Change Today

WClimate change is a giant issue going on int todays society. As time goes on climate change is getting worse and is predicted to destroy our world sooner than later. THis topic relates to the classroom becuase it is important to educate young children on the topic. The children are our future and we have to start there so we can save what we have left. The news areticles can be used to show awareness on the subject and inform.
